Whats Your Favorite Gaming Platform? (Krispy)

Throughout my 25 or so years of gaming I’ve played it all, in one form or another. I will always have a special place in my heart for console gaming as it was what i was primarily raised on gaming-wise. PC gaming was never something I spent too much time on, but have always enjoyed a good point-and-click or the occasional MMO.

Where my gaming experience has always thrived though is definitely the handheld field. Whereas I may not buy a home console on day one, I will always buy a handheld as soon as possible. Some may complain of the lack of graphics or online capabilities on these systems, but I have never needed those to truly enjoy my gaming experiences.

My first handheld system was the Sega Game Gear and, man, did I love that thing. Biggest downfall was that it only lasted about 6 hours or so on the 6 AA batteries it required. Due to that I wasn’t able to play it as often as I would have liked.

Jump ahead about 5 years later… and out comes Pokémon. At this point, I never looked back. My friend (whom you all know on here as Bigfoot) convinced me that Pokémon was going to be awesome so I had to have it when it came out. He was oh so right. I played hours on end, day after day, I faked sick to stay home and play it, I saved up money to buy a worm light (remember those??) just so that I could play when I was supposed to be sleeping! My love for handheld gaming was safely secured at this point.

When the Gameboy Advance came out I bought it day 1 with Super Mario Advance: Super Mario Bros 2 and loved playing through a game I hadn’t played in over 10 years with ease on my handheld: the graphics were how I remembered them, the controls fluid, and the whole thing fit in my pocket. Oh, and then out came Golden Sun, which I was obsessed with for many years.

With the release of both the DS and the PSP a few years later I continued playing on the go, or even just while I watched TV, for many more years. Being able to play Twisted Metal, Metal Gear and Tony Hawk on the go blew my mind. On top of that the DS was offering such cool gaming experiences with its dual touch screens, I was always playing one of those two handhelds.

Then came the 3DS. The addition of spot passing has added just another reason for me to carry my 3DS with me every where I go. With awesome original games like Super Mario 3D Land, Link Between Worlds and Animal Crossing: New Leaf to name a few, plus the countless awesome remakes like Ocarina of Time, the system just offers so much to play. Not to mention I can play Earthbound on the go now thanks to the eShop!

Do I only play handhelds? No, not by a long shot. I spend many hours console gaming on my PS4 or my WiiU. I lead legions and guilds on mobile games. I even find time to throw in PC gaming from time to time. But what it all boils down to is this: if I woke up tomorrow and could only choose one avenue of gaming, I would pick handheld every time.

From as early as he can remember, Krispy has been a gamer. From the Super Mario Bros 3 on NES to Destiny on PS4 he has been running, jumping, and button smashing across worlds on most major consoles. A few of his favorite games are Super Metroid, Earthbound, and the Uncharted series.
